About

Hola, I'm Heather and welcome to My Spanish Vida.

My Spanish vida (previously called Suncream and Sparkles - you can read about the name change here) is a lifestyle, wellness and travel blog.

I started this blog quite a few years ago and it has certainly changed and evolved over the years. As I have got older, recently turning 39 in February and interests and life have changed, my little blog has adapted along the way too.

I feel very blessed to call Spain's beautiful Costa blanca South 'home'.
We've lived here on and off for the last seven years, starting off with our 'holiday home' which we loved visiting when we were living in Dubai.

In 2019 we decided to sell our lovely house in the urban area of the Orihuela Costa and move slightly inland to the village of Pinar de Campoverde.

We wanted more outdoor space and ended up taking on a huge renovation project. At the time Mark, my husband, was working in Germany, so even though we do love diy and would of loved to do the project ourselves, at the time it just wasn't viable, so we got the builders in and six months later, early 2020 we moved in.

Our garden is an ongoing working progress, which is great as it's something to get our teeth into and something to be creative with. I have also discovered a whole new love of gardening which has definitely become my new joy, my escapism and my therapy.

Mark and I have lived overseas pretty much for the whole time we've been together. We had six months in KL Malaysia which then lead us to the glitz and glamour of the United Arab Emirates. We were in the UAE for five years and we were lucky enough to experience living in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ras al-Khaimah.

After that because of my husbands work we also lived for a short while in Plailly near Paris and also Leipzig in Germany.

We took a big decision for Mark to leave the rat-race and for us to live full time here in Southern Spain. We took the plunge to become autonomous (self employed) and build our life here in Spain in our beautiful forever home.

We also share our home with seven amazing feline fur-babies. They totally rule the roost and have us completely wrapped around their little cute paws.  All seven are strays, two are from Dubai that we flew back with us and the others are from Spain. They're all now house cats and are certainly living their best life!

Getting motivated to exercise

Getting motivated to exercise for me is probably one of the hardest things. I don't know why, as in my head I'd love to be one of these fitness girls you see all over Instagram all happy, bouncy and always raring to go. I always feel good after I've exercised so I really don't know why it takes me ages to get myself motivated. I'm 39 now and I know I need to lose weight. I'm not drastically overweight it's more of a personal thing. The usual story that my clothes are getting snugger, I'm out of breath a lot quicker after just doing the simplest tasks and I'm snoring a lot more at night, which my doctor did say could be because I've put on a few extra pounds. Over the last 9 years I've actually put on 20 lbs! That's crazy isn't it. The weight has literally been sneaking up on me and the fat has gradually been moving in a pound at a time. Crafty little thing really.  It has got to the stage where enough is enough and I need, probably fo

Choosing a name for your blog

~ this post contains affiliate links, which means if you purchase through a link on the blog I will receive a tiny amount of commission, but it will NOT cost you anymore. Read more on my  Disclaimer/Contact  page ~ Since writing the post ' Blogging tips ~ Basic/Beginners'   I keep thinking about the part about choosing a name for your blog. If you've been here a while you'd know that this blog was originally called Suncream and Sparkles ~ which I have written about why I changed my blog name  here . Even though I do love my new blog name and I don't regret changing it I do wish I had taken more time and consideration in the very beginning when first starting my blog, or at least before buying the domain. You see blogging, even now for me who's been doing it for a fair few years, it really is a constant learning curve where you're always discovering new ways and new ideas to tweak and improve your blog. If you're debating on what name to choose for your

Restaurante Jardin, La Zenia, Spain

Last week after passing Restaurante Jardin for the last six years we actually got round to venturing in. And we are so pleased we did, the only regret is that it's taken us six years to do so! Located just off the Carretera de Villamartin roundabout near La Zenia's Mcdonalds and the Notary you'll find this gem of a restaurant. With a varied mix of Sushi, rice and noodles, teriyaki dishes, Bangkok style ribs, crispy beef, garlic prawns, to name just a few, they also have more simple items such as chicken balls (nuggets), fried cheese, mushrooms - which are very tasty and potato wedges. Even though Restaurante Jardin is an all you can eat buffet it is sit down table service, with a menu and your food is made to order. For €11.95 per person (€6.95 for children) we found it extremely good value for money. We had such a mix and didn't really have anything in any particular order. The dishes aren't huge, but still a decent size and I actually like them being
